Thea Wren is original music with soulful jazz undertones and New Orleans style up beat rhythms. Heartfelt, energizing, and genuine, Thea Wren captivates with sophisticated jazz stylings and unique soulful grooves, showcasing eclectic songwriting from bandleader Cynthia Braren. With a background in classical piano training and 20 years of experience as a multi-faceted vocalist, Braren is infusing the Burlington music scene with a rich and distinct sultry voice that invites listeners into Parisian side streets and the French Quarter of New Orleans. Hailing from Minneapolis, where she began her career as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Braren joins forces with some of the best musicians on the Burlington music scene, such as Peter Krag, Jon McBride,Rob Morse, and Zach Harmon. Thea Wren has been gracing the rooms and entertaining patrons regular at Hotel Vermont, Stowe Mountain Resort, The Gryphon, local festivals, and large private events to name a few.
Thea Wren's live performances showcase a blend of original tunes with modern and old-time covers. Along with bluesy vocal nuances, Thea also adds guitar and melodica, to enhance her already unique sound full of eccentric chord progressions, harmonies, and dynamics. She has been pulled aside by many music lovers and musicians who comment on the bands unique style and level of musicianship.The trio was featured on the Top Block stage at the 2014 Burlington Discover Jazz Festival as well as several venues during the event in 2015 and 2016 including numerous shows at Leunigs Bistro which is at the heart of the festival. They were showcased at the Flynn Space as part of Burlington's 2015 and 2016 First Night New Years Eve Celebrations playing to sold out crowds both years. This past year they were asked to headline the event at the Flynn Space to a standing room only crowd. Thea Wren can expand their band to 6 pieces for weddings and large events and enjoys interacting with crowd, keeping everyone engaged and on their feet. With their increased following, Thea Wren has been actively showcasing their unique sound in Burlington and beyond thus far in 2016.
